YTTC: yoga therapy and training centre

Hello from Roy: Newsletter Summer 2010

Hi Everyone,

I hope you all had a good summer and are looking forward to the Indian summer this September! Ah ever the optimist!

We have had a few changes with tutors this summer, some moving on, others coming and others moving around. Our Yoga Therapy team has changed with Suzy Cooper and Emmet Devlin leaving their post; both have been with the YTTC for many years. Suzy recently moved back to the UK. I am sure they will do well wherever their road may take them. Thank you for all your years of loyal support, it was my privilege to support your great efforts in furthering Yoga Therapy, rest assured that the YTTC team will continue to provide the highest standards of Yoga Therapy training into the future.

To achieve this we have Majella Mc Intyre moving into the roll as director of Yoga Therapy, she is bringing in Claire Desmond and Doctor Sally Dorrin to support her in delivering the Yoga Therapy modular course, they will continue to maintain the continuity of all courses running at present in Cork, Dublin and Lisburn and will be starting a new course in L’Derry this Autumn. One of the few changes to the Yoga Therapy course will be the reintroduction of the asana practice at the start of each day. The practice will be directly related to the module being covered.  Checkout the Yoga Therapy pages to find out about the new tutors and structure.

The level one course in Waterford is going very well under the direction of Nicole with Enda Tweedy shadowing Nicole as she go’s through her tutoring program. Enda is doing great things with her beautiful centre in Waterford. Ever time I think of Nicole and her attitude to what is possible I laugh, simply she has no limit to what is possible, with an attitude like that there comes a sense of anticipation of the potential in every moment.

There have been a lot of changes in the YTTC over the last few years and I have focused a lot on getting across what the ethos of the YTTC team is and how we are following through on our commitment. I have received some very good feedback from members that the newsletters are focusing a lot on how we are developing the YTTC but there are fewer articles about yoga itself. I will make it a point to include more yoga articles.

So, I am looking for some yoga articles from you the members, we can do a trade so to speak. In all things in life there needs to be an energetic exchange to maintain balance, everybody has to pay the ferryman as they say. So I offer you a simple exchange, send in your article(s) on a yoga subject of your choice and you can advertise you classes and workshops at the same time.  It would be great if we had a few regular writers who wanted to write articles that have a continuity and progression to them. So if you fancy sending in an article(s) we would love to hear from you.

It is our intention to run courses around the country in the areas we do not already cover, for example Galway, the midlands and further a field in places like Spain, the UK. If you are interested in developing a training program in your yoga business and become part of the YTTC please contact Roy in the head office or If you feel you have come to a level in your teaching where you might consider training to be a tutor contact Roy in the head office, we can always do with more tutors.

One of the hardest parts of being a yoga teacher is being self-employed. The teaching is the easy bit, getting the students and maintaining a steady income is harder. Like life, the yoga world in always moving and in flux, riding the waves and keeping the head above water so to speak is a skill in it’s self. Sometimes we need to redouble our efforts, think s.m.a.r.t.e.r. {Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Timed, Enjoyable, Rewarding} and take the opportunities that come our way even if they scare the hell out of us.

We have the Level one Intensive training in Murcia Southern Spain this Autumn/Winter; it is four weeks run over 2 two-week blocks. There is a 25% discount for any qualified teacher who wishes to come along and enjoy yoga in the sun for a month. A very refreshing refresher course, I am looking for 8 to 10 people so please book early.

We have set dates for our first level one in Galway this Autumn, Paddy Hamill will be the lead tutor on this course, venue to be announced.  We have looked around Galway for a venue but have not settled on one yet, if anyone knows a good venue in the Galway area please let us know. We are also looking for a yoga teacher to shadow Paddy and go through our tutoring program on this course, again if you are interested please contact Roy in the head office.

We will be introducing our YTTC Continual Personal Development {CPD} Booklet. The booklet allows you to keep a simple record of all the courses, workshops and training you have attended in one simple book. CPD days are not a requirement but we all attend courses and training and the booklet is a practical tool to keep a record of your training. It is far easier to carry your booklet than to be asking your teachers for letters of attendance. I do not have a date set for the booklet but it will appear with your newsletter in the near future.

Keep well and enjoy your yoga,

Roy
